Employee Spotlight: Jen Smart

Mar 13, 2019

Happy March! It’s time for another employee spotlight; this time from Aquatics. We take pride in offering extensive indoor and outdoor pool facilities at each of our locations and a variety of options for swimmers of all skill levels. Whether you are looking for youth or adult swimming programs or group or private lessons, we have an incredible and qualified staff to guide you. That being said, meet Jen Smart, one of our Colorado Springs instructors!

Jen's Background and Goals

I have been teaching for 20 years (since I was 13) but have been in the water since I was 6 months old. Because of that, the water is my home. My goal as a teacher is to share my love, appreciation, and respect of the water with everyone. As instructors, we do more than just teach our students how to swim. We give them a life and safety skill as well as help them discover their confidence and ability to do anything they put their mind to. I have worked with a 6-month old baby and an 88-year old woman. The water doesn't care what age or stage you are and everyone can learn to be successful in it.

Jen Smart Swim

What is your guilty pleasure?

My guilty pleasure is sitting down to watch Arrow with a big bowl of macaroni and cheese.

What is your favorite style of swimming?

Although I have raced in all four strokes, my favorite is backstroke. But my love for synchronized swimming outshines any one stroke and is what helped me become a regional California champion.

What song do you currently have on repeat?

Typically, I only listen to the radio. The last song I actually looked up and listened to on repeat was “Old Church Choir” by Zach Williams. My favorite bands are Trick Pony and Aerosmith.
